Scientists continue to chip away at the mysteries of cancer, unlocking new secrets every day and continuing to make significant gains over the last 30 years. Yet, despite the continuing good news and lowering cancer death rates by more than 30%, cancer continues to kill at an alarming rate and has recently surpassed heart disease as the nation's number one killer. One in five Americans will succumb to cancer at some point in their lives and whether or not we continue to make gains rests in the hands of cancer researchers.
Despite this alarming statistic, the U.S. Federal Government has recently funded the fight against cancer at its lowest level since President Nixon declared the “War on Cancer” over 30 years ago. Now only a fraction of the U.S. budget and less than the cost of one U.S. Army Abram M-1 tank, the fight against America 's most deadly killer, continues to sit on the sidelines, replaced for other national priorities.
As a result, the National Foundation for Cancer Research has launched the “Cancer Research America ” campaign to coordinate the efforts of those individuals and organizations willing to take a stand to increase funding for Cancer Research around the world.
